RC Transmission & DiffAt RCcarStars we offer transmission packages for your tranny, diff and transfer-case. When we perform any of our services, we get your RC drive-train in top-notch shape for racing or bashing. We return all worn parts to you and will explain how to maintain your drive-train to those of you that want to learn.
RC Transmissions: Transmission cleaning and maintenance is important for any RC vehicle. For those of you who bought an RTR RC, you may have never opened up the transmission, and if you neglect it for too long, it will not perform the way you want it to. At RCcarStars, transmission maintenance includes cleaning, inspecting, and lubricating the gears and bearings. This maintenance should be performed routinely about every 5 to 6 runs or every couple months if the truck has been sitting around for an extended period of time. Also, anytime the transmission does not feel smooth or unusual noises can be heard, the transmission needs to be inspected. Remember to perform maintenance regularly, every 5 runs is ideal but at least every 10 runs. Neglecting maintenance will cause your RC to run poorly and a transmission rebuild will be in your future. |

One of the most overlooked and abused parts on your car is most likely the differential. On most cars it is not easy to remove and simply rebuilding it doesn’t always make it better. If you are having problems with traction in corners, a good place to start finding some more grip is your differential.
RC Gear Diffs: Gear differentials have been the norm in 1/8-scale cars for quite a while, but it has only been since the release of short course trucks that they’ve found their way into many RTR and race-level 1/10-scale cars and trucks. A gear diff requires maintenance on a less regular basis than a ball diff to remain durable, which is why they have become the norm for entry-level cars, but their consistency and ability to be tuned with different oils makes them ideal for any track condition. Properly building a gear diff is not a huge task, and routinely changing your fluid and grease is a must to keep that diff consistent and functioning properly.
RC Ball Diffs: Balls diffs are more of an upgrade, or competition style diff. There are five major components to a ball diff, the gear, diff rings/balls, thrust assembly and out-drives. Each part is very important to the diff function. One bad component can and will make it function less than optimally. The most important parts are the diff rings/balls and thrust assembly. When we are replacing these, we make sure to replace both the balls and rings at the same time. A bad set of rings will make a brand new set of balls not function properly and vice versa.
RC Transfer Case: Many of you may wonder what is a transfer case? A transfer case is unique to 4 wheel drive RC vehicles, and it's what directs the power to both ends (axles) of the RC through two separate drive-shafts. 2 wheel drives don’t need a transfer case as the drive-shaft comes directly out of the transmission to the drive wheels. Maintenance on a transfer-case is similar to the maintenance on a transmission. About every 5 to 10 runs you must clean, lube and check for worn gears and bearings. We perform all these tasks and more when you choose our Transfer-case service package.
